what's new
(February 2008)
Louis Comfort Tiffany worked in the medium of stained glass from about 1877 through the 1920s. Stained glass windows became desirable not only for shielding the occupants from dreary backyard views, but also for the richness they added to the decorative schemes of the interiors. Tiffany's firm produced thousands of windows for buildings throughout North America - especially churches. These windows often defied convention by conferring religious significance on the landscape and natural world. At left is a window from Battell Chapel in Norfolk, Connecticut. |

- Get the catalog. Many times catalogs can be found online.
- Attend the preview. Closely examine items you wish to bid on.
- Determine your maximum price for each item and stick to it! Note the reserve, or minimum price, and any buyer's premium and factor that into your costs.
- Start bidding! For auctions without reserve prices give it a little time before you start bidding, if there are no other bidders, your first price may be the price you pay.

Think out of the box when decorating. This chandelier, created by Stuart Haygarth, is made of 1000 exploded Party Poppers collected after the Millennium celebrations in London. Each Popper is suspended on a line from a platform above. The sculptural shape sways and moves like an organic form when hit by a breeze.
